The field-proven Rugged Systems™ UPS line is ideally suited for commercial, industrial, computer and telecommunications applications requiring high reliability, rugged construction, compact size and light weight design. These units are equally suited for use in shipboard, airborne, vehicular, field deployed or fixed locations with controlled or uncontrolled environments. The ETI0001-1473AF was specifically designed to meet the stringent requirements of FAA programs including WAAS. The ETI0001-1473AF does not require a separate PDU since the PDU functions are already integrated into the UPS module. This saves rack space, cabling, and expense while improving overall reliability.

The heavy-duty chassis, occupying only 5.25”(3U) for the electronics and 3.5″ (2U) for the optional battery module by 22” depth, delivers up to 2000 VA of clean, uninterruptible power. The rounded metal corners and rugged handles, both front and rear, aid in safe handling. Internally, all major components are well secured and electrically insulated to prevent damage due to shock and vibration in any axis.

The standard version accepts domestic voltages from 85-135 VAC at full load. At loads less than full load, the input voltage can be even lower. The optional global input version has auto-ranging from 85-270 VAC (CONUS and OCONUS) utilizing an internal input transformer. When ordering the global version, the input circuit breaker and the galvanic isolation transformer provide a double pole isolated source for overseas locations where phase references and grounding are not consistent.

The unit also operates as a frequency converter, taking 46-70 hertz input and converting it to 60 or 50 hertz power switch selectable. The unit can also be ordered with 46-440 hertz input. Special EMI/RFI filters and input power factor correction minimize both input current and harmonics. The ETI0001-1473AA has the added benefit of having an internally redundant 24 VDC DC power source output.

The LED arrays keep the operator informed as to the unit’s status including load and battery levels. The Elapsed Time Indicator records the number of operational hours for records and scheduling preventative maintenance of attached equipment. The front and rear panels also provide easy access to both the AC Input and Battery Input fuses. Coupled with the adjacent spare fuses, MTTR is reduced to less than 15 minutes.

The internal intelligent thermal sensors provide two-stage monitoring of unit temperatures, with both local and remote Inhibit Over Temperature (INHIBIT OVRTMP) capability of thermal shutdown. INHIBIT OVRTMP can be engaged via the front panel control, via a remote contact input or via a software command. When in INHIBIT OVRTMP, an audible alarm is sounded and an indicator is lit. The high-intensity audible alarm can be heard in high noise environments and includes an audible enable/disable/reset switch and an adjustable vane to control the sound level.

All controls and protective devices are brought to the front and rear panels with critical switches or breakers guarded. Further, all front panel devices are recessed to prevent damage or accidental operation. The internal intelligent PDU allows control of the individual output circuits incorporating thermal and interlock interfaces for additional control and safety. Ten push/pull circuit breakers provide both circuit protection and manual controls. Both the input and load circuit breakers are shock-rated to over 100 Gs. The display and control panel can be mounted remotely in the rack at eye level, or on the keyboard console, or on the unit front panel with only a logic level cable connection.

The rear panel provides locking connectors for the input and output power with various optional configurations available. This unit draws air through the front air filter and exhausts out the rear vent into the rack. This allows the unit to be used in either negative or neutral pressure racks. The stainless steel ball-bearing fan is a special extra quiet version to keep the unit’s overall audible level below 44 dB.

The Status connector provides an interface with optional computer software providing loss of AC and low battery status as well as remote shut down capability. The UPS Remote Control and PDU Remote Control connectors provide an interface to optional remote display/control panels. The RJ45 LAN port provides an SNMP/HTTP interface for various UPS parameters and control of the load outputs. Internal software functions include the ability to Sequence Loads of Startup and to Shed Loads for either Overload or Over temperature or to lengthen battery run time (when used with battery modules). These functions follow user-defined priority lists and schedules.

The batteries in the optional battery modules are maintenance-free with immobilized electrolyte and are constructed of flame retardant materials.

For more information, see the Battery Technology section. The Status connector provides an interface with optional computer software providing loss of AC and low battery status as well as remote shut down capability.

Works with Rugged Power UPS Products and Battery Modules

ETI uses the highest quality, maintenance-free, immobilized electrolyte, lead-acid batteries in all of its Rugged Power™, World Power™ and Military Power® UPS products. However as with all lead-acid batteries, there is an internal self discharge that will over time discharge the battery when not being charged. Three basic factors effect the shelf life of batteries: the charge state when stored, the storage temperature, and the length of time stored without being recharged. A battery should never be stored in a discharged state, otherwise it will form lead sulfate that permanently damages the battery. With some projects stretching out over many months, maintaining the charge state of the batteries in the UPS can be a problem. Secondly, attempting to stock spare battery packs or modules for deployed units becomes an even more difficult task since they do not have their own charger like the UPS.

Designed for either in a rack or on a bench top, the ETI0001-1132 Charger/Conditioner is ideally suited for periodic or continuous maintenance of the batteries in the UPS as well as spare Battery Modules. The ETI0001-1132 is specifically designed to support ETI UPS products. The heavy-duty chassis, occupying only limited rack space, has rounded metal corners and rugged handles, aid in safe handling. Internally, all major components are well secured and electrically insulated to prevent damage due to shock and vibration. The front panel meters and LEDs keep the operator informed as to the unit’s status including charge voltage, current, and charge state. All controls and protective devices are brought to front panel and are recessed to prevent damage or accidental operation. The rear panel provides locking connectors for the input and output power. The four output connectors use adapter cables to interface directly with the UPS units and/or with the spare battery modules. An output selector switch allows the operator to choose between the three nominal outputs. Output current is specifically regulated for optimal battery life, including compensating for ambient temperatures.

In addition to maintaining the correct charge on the battery, the ETI0001-1132 has a Battery Conditioner Section. Battery Conditioning is initiated by pressing a switch on the front panel. This starts a programmed cycle beginning with the first battery connected. It performs a gradual discharge of the battery to a specific level, then begins recharging the battery. This discharge/recharge cycle serves to freshen the battery so that it can perform better on demand. Once it has completed this cycle on the first battery connected, it starts the same cycle with each subsequent battery connected.

The internal input transformer provides galvanic isolation with provisions for both domestic (115 VAC, CONUS) and international (230 VAC, OCONUS) input voltages. The auto-ranging input voltage selection allows inputting either 115 VAC or 230 VAC without having to open the enclosure. The input switch and the galvanic isolation transformer provide a double pole isolated source for all installations including shipboard systems or overseas locations where phase references and grounding are not consistent.

Overall, the ETI0001-1132 provides a reliable yet simple solution to the issue of maintaining UPS batteries while in storage.

Works with 1.0 thru 6.0 kVA Rugged Power UPS Products and Battery Modules

ETI uses the highest quality, maintenance-free, immobilized electrolyte, lead-acid batteries in all of its Rugged Power™,World Power™and Military Power® UPS products. If a battery is stored fully charged at 68°F (20°C), then it would require are charge at least once every six months to maintain its design life. If the storage temperature is 88°F (40°C), the storage time between supplementary charges is less than three months. With some projects stretching out over many months, maintaining the charge state of the batteries in the UPS can be a problem. Secondly, attempting to stock spare battery packs or modules for deployed units becomes an even more difficult task since they do not have their own charger like the UPS.

Designed for either in a rack or on a bench top, the ETI0001-1151 Charger/Conditioner is ideally suited for periodic or continuous maintenance of the batteries in the UPS as well as spare Battery Modules. The ETI0001-1151 is specifically designed to support ETI UPS products from 1.0 kVA through 6.0 kVA, including the JMCIS, DTC-2, TAC-3 and TAC-4 UPS. The heavy-duty chassis, occupying only 3.5” of rack space, has rounded metal corners and rugged handles, aid in safe handling. The four output connectors use adapter cables to interface directly with the UPS units and/or with the sparebattery modules. An output selector switch allows the operator to choose between the three nominal outputs. Output current is specifically regulated for optimal battery life, including compensating for ambient temperatures.

In addition to maintaining the correct charge on the battery, the ETI0001-1151 has a Battery Conditioner Section.

Overall, the ETI0001-1151 provides a reliable yet simple solution to the issue of maintaining UPS batteries while in storage.
