The field proven Rugged Power™ UPS line is ideally suited for military, industrial, computer and telecommunications applications requiring high reliability, rugged construction, compact size and light weight design. These units are equally suited for use in shipboard, airborne, vehicular, field deployed or fixed locations with controlled or uncontrolled environments. The ETI0001-1233 is being used by Naval Surface Warfare Center as the power source for critical ship controls because of the stringent performance and reliability requirements.
The heavy-duty chassis, occupying only 5.25”(3U) for the electronics and 3.5″ (2U) for the battery module by 23.5” depth, has rounded metal corners and rugged handles front and rear, aiding in safe handling. Internally, all major components are well secured and electrically insulated to prevent damage due to shock and vibration.
The internal shielded input transformer provides galvanic isolation with provisions for domestic (115 VAC, CONUS) and optionally for international (230 VAC, OCONUS) input voltages. For field deployed scenarios, the Cold Start feature allows the unit to run from its battery module before external AC is available. Special EMI/RFI filters and input power factor correction minimize both input current and harmonics. To provide added flexibility and reliability, the ETI0001-1233 accepts two independent AC power sources and includes inrush current limiting. The UPS can operate from either power source automatically and does not use its battery unless both sources have failed.
The unit also operates as a frequency converter, taking 46-70 hertz input and converting it to clean, uninterruptible 60 hertz power. The
ETI0001-1233 has the added benefit of having an internally redundant 28 VDC DC power source output.
The LED arrays keep the operator informed as to the unit’s status including load and battery levels. The high intensity audible alarm can be heard in high noise environments. All controls and protective devices are brought to the front and rear panels with critical switches having finger guards. Further, all front panel devices are recessed to prevent damage or accidental operation. The input switch and the galvanic isolation transformer all provide a double pole isolated source for all installations including shipboard systems or overseas locations where phase references and grounding are not consistent.
The rear panel provides locking connectors for the input and output power. Removable and washable air filters and a high capacity stainless steel ball bearing fan provide added protection in both controlled and hostile environments. The exhaust air is diverted out the front vents, with alternate air flow directions optional. The external battery connector allows the safe and easy addition of the standard or extra
battery modules without having to shut the unit down. The batteries are maintenance free with immobilized electrolyte and are constructed of flame retardant materials. For more information, see the Battery Technology section. The unit also operates as a frequency converter, taking 46-70 hertz input and converting it to 50 hertz power. A frequency selection switch is available for those sites requiring 60 hertz output instead of the standard 50 hertz. The Status connector provides an interface with optional computer software providing loss of AC and low battery status as well as remote shut down capability.
See the Power Distribution Units section for a listing of stand alone PDUs. See the N5 Series section for versions of UPS with an integrated PDU and remote control.
